November Ahoy! #
November is going to be a big month at the Film Society with many great films being screened and a number of events going on. Keep on ready to learn about all the excitement to come.
November Events #
We are pleased to announce that Jason Mewes is once again scheduled to
come to UBC. He will be participating in the
Mewesicology event, which
will feature a screening of
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back–in which Mewes plays the character
Jay–followed by a Q&A with the man himself. Tickets are $5 (no
member discount) and are available
online or at The Outpost in the SUB.
Later that week we will be hosting our traditional
beverage
garden for The Big Lebowski.
This annual event has become the hallmark of The Film Society and gives
students and the public a chance to enjoy the film while drinking
a variety of beverages
. An event not to be missed by and true

Tickets are $3 for members and $6 for non-members (members cannot
extend their discount to others) and are available at the door.
Remember to bring 2 forms of ID to prove you are over 21.
November’s Regular Screenings #
We begin the month with a screening of the scathing film about the
fast food industry in America,
Fast Food Nation, playing at . This is followed at by the film about love,
(500) Days of Summer, staring
Zooey Deschenel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Both are playing from

.
The following week we have screenings of
Paper Heart, a sort-of-documentary look at love featuring Michael
Cera at followed by
the new Adam Sandler comedy Funny People
at . These films are
playing from Wednesday to Sunday with the exception of Friday in order to
make room for
The Big Lebowski Beverage Garden which will be happening that Friday.
From the 16th–22nd we are screening two
politically charged films. The first is
District 9, regarding the botched relocation of alien refugees who
were living in a slum in South Africa. This is followed by the English
political comedy In The Loop, covering
the leadup to a war in the Middle East. These films are playing at
and
respectively.
We finish of the month—and year in fact—with a Quentin
Tarantino week, featuring both one of his hit classics as well as his
latest bloodfest. At
we are playing Inglourious
Basterds, his new film featuring loads of Nazi killing. Then at
the classic
Pulp Fiction will be screened.
A double feature not to be missed will be the perfect way to start of
exam period.
