Events, Events, and the October Schedule #
October is looking like it will be a good month for movies. We will be showing some of the best movies of the summer for your enjoyment as well as hosting a number of great events. But before we go into detail about October, let’s look at some great events we have coming before the end of September.
September Events
Next week The Film Society in conjunction with Warner Brothers will be
hosting a free preview screening of the upcoming Ricky
Gervais film
The Invention of Lying. Be sure to arrive early, because it is going
to be packed in the theatre on Monday. To ensure you get a seat, stop by
the clubroom to pick up a VIP pass for you and a guest
(members only, limit one per person).
Also next week will be the first meeting of Film Society Productions, the part of FilmSoc where you can make movies. Stop by and hear productions and how you can get involved this year. That event will by Wednesday, September 30th at in the Norm Theatre.
The Hangover Beverage Garden
Our big event coming in October will be
The
Hangover Beverage Garden. Enjoy one of the best comedies of the
year while enjoying themed beverages with your friends (don’t
worry, all of the normal stuff will be available too). Great times
are sure to be enjoyed by all. The event is occuring on Friday,
October 16th at (movie starts at ).
We will be holding a best hangover story
contest in which you
may will great prizes as well as embarrass yourself in front
a theatre filled with 350+ people (but don’t go be irresponsible
just to get a good story).
Remember, this event is 19+ only and you must have at least 2 forms of ID to get in. Tickets are $3 for members and $6 for non-members, so sign up and save.
October Schedule #
October will be starting off with with the latest comedy from the
creators of hit 2006 film Borat, Brüno,
about a famboyant Austrainian fashionista who travels to America to
reclaim his fame. After that will be the latest explosionfest from
Director Michael Bay
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Both of these movies are playing
Wednesday–Sunday at
and respectively.
The week of October 12th to 18th begins with
the special Jason Mewes event and screening. Also coming that week
are two vastly different films. The first is the Las Vegas adventure
comedy The Hangover detailing
the aftermath of an unforgettable and yet unremembered bachelor
party. This film will play from Wednesday–Sunday at
, but the Friday
screening will be surrounded by a Beverage garden. The second film
showing this week is The Hurt
Locker, a film about a Baghdad based bomb squad who find themselves
with a careless new leader when they are within a month of the end of
their tours. This film will be playing at on Wednesday–Sunday except on Friday.
Next week is the start of our Halloween film presentations with the
horror film Drag Me To Hell,
which is the story of a load officer who gets a cursed placed on her
and only has a couple of days to reverse it before her soul is pulled
into the underworld. It will be shown at . Also showing that week is the latest installment in the
Harry Potter series,
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This film is all about
Harry’s 6th year at Hogwarts and the beginning of the
war with Voldemort. It will be showing at . Both films are showing from Wednesday, October 21st
to Sunday, October 25th.
We end the month with a couple of classics. At
we will be showing
Good Will Hunting, a film
starting Matt Damon about a directionless genius who spends his days
cleaning floors and getting in fights. When his genius is discovered,
Will Hunting must make some hard choices in life in order to determine
where his future will take him. Good Will Hunting is a co-presentation
with Celebrate Learning Week. After that at
we are showing another
halloween-ish film, American Psycho,
about a wealthy investment banker who is secretly a murderous maniac.
Both of these films will be playing Wednesday to Sunday.
